What is a carbon brush?

In the high current slip ring, brush block, also known as carbon brush, is a very important contact. The choice of carbon brush material directly affects the performance of the whole slip ring. As the name suggests, a carbon brush must contain elemental carbon. At present, the carbon brush on the market to add carbon materials, in addition to graphite, nothing else. Commonly used carbon brushes are copper graphite carbon brush and silver graphite carbon brush. Several carbon brushes will be described in detail below.

Graphite carbon brush

Copper is the most common metallic conductor, while graphite is a nonmetallic conductor. After adding graphite to the metal, the carbon brush produced not only has good electrical conductivity, but also has good wear resistance and graphite lubricity, plus the above two materials are affordable and easy to obtain. The impact of carbon brushes on the performance of high-current slip rings is also limited to electrical performance and service life. Through the above analysis, we can know that the electrical performance of high-current slip rings using copper-graphite, copper and brass brushes They are comparable, and the electrical conductivity of high-current slip rings using silver-copper graphite brushes and gold-silver-copper-graphite alloy brushes is higher. As for the impact on the service life, it has a relatively large relationship with the specific operation of the slip ring.
