Role of carbon brushes in motors

Four main functions.

1. To add external current (excitation current) to the rolling rotor through the carbon brushes (input current).

2. To introduce the electrostatic charge on the large shaft to the earth (grounded carbon brush) through the carbon brush (output current).

3. Lead the large shaft (ground) to the protection device for rotor ground protection and measurement of positive and negative rotor voltage to ground.

4. change the direction of the current (in the rectifier motor, the brushes play a commutation role).

The principle of electricity generation is that the magnetic field cuts the wire and then produces current in the wire. The generator is the method of letting the magnetic field rotate to cut the wire, the rotating magnetic field is the rotor, the wire being cut is the stator.

In order for the rotor to produce a magnetic field, a magnetizing current must be fed to the coil of the rotor. The carbon brushes are used to feed the magnetizing current generated by the magneto generator into the rotor coils.
